Overview
Crystal-clear turquoise water, visibility that goes on forever and an underwater world that ranks among the 10 best dive areas on the planet — welcome to the Similan Islands. And here's the catch: this marine paradise is only open for a few months a year. From 15 October to 15 May the national park opens its doors, and these are the months to experience it. Your full-day speedboat adventure departs from the pier at Sarasin on Phuket's east coast and races 84 km out into the Andaman Sea. First stop: Koh Bangu (Island No. 9), where you slip into the water at Coral Bay and snorkel above vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical fish. Then on to Donald Duck Bay on Koh Similan (Island No. 8) — swim, soak up the sun on powder-white sand and hike up to the legendary Sail Rock for the most iconic view in the Andaman Sea. At Koh Payu (Island No. 7), better known as "Finding Nemo", you'll snorkel alongside clownfish and, with a bit of luck, graceful sea turtles. Finish with a Thai lunch and pure beach time on Koh Miang (Island No. 4) before cruising back to Phuket — with memories (and photos) you'll never forget.
